The Life and Mission of the Apostle St. Paul

A Spiritual Biography in five lessons with David Higbee

In my teaching experience over the past decades, I’ve found that almost all Christians today have a rather disjointed and incomplete knowledge of the New Testament. They have only the vaguest notion of it as a compelling story of faith. This is sad, because we lose so much of our heritage and a certain enlivening perspective. I've found this true even of people who read the Bible daily. It certainly holds true for the ministry of St. Paul which, after all, has so profoundly affected and still affects our Christian understanding of just about everything – a ministry which has given us the bulk of the epistles of the New Testament.

That’s why I believe that this short series of five sessions is so important. We need a memorable and insightful story to enliven our faith. So, we propose to cover St. Paul's entire ministry and all of this writings, putting it all into a comprehensive and coherent story. Note also: there will be handouts, which will be very useful and convenient for future reference. We will then conclude with a final chapter in his story. So here is a historical key to most of the New Testament.

Bear in mind that no apostle or saint of the New Testament has left a greater imprint on the faith of millions of Christians. From his dramatic conversion on the road to Damascus, St. Paul was the most controversial figure of the New Testament (something we often forget). And he proved himself to be the great apostle to the Gentile nations – which radically changed the entire history of the Church and has touched all of our lives. So don’t miss what I am calling a spiritual biography.

In this year of St. Paul, this is one study you won’t want to miss.
